We brought back the iconic Völkl Tennis Heart. The V-Engine Technology added stability on off-center shots and provided a recognizable design.

We perfected the playability of the V-Engine Series with our Tour players around the world. Many switched to the new technology like Radek Stepanek and Sam Stosur. Radek reached his highest ranking (ATP #9) after switching to the new Tour 10 Mid V-Engine. Coincidence? Maybe, but it ligitimized the technology.

Unlike anything the Tennis industry had seen: CATAPULT Technology. We designed carbon fibre springs and placed them on the tennis frame. The springs were designed as a game enhancing technology that supported players in generating extra power.

The unique and patented CATAPULT springs added a new dimension to tennis racquet performance.

The POWER ARM with a free floating heart was the ideal construction for the game improvement segment.

There are many different technologies that are integrated into a tennis racquet. I was part of developing many of them.

Bags are an important part of the product offering. On-Court visibility supports brand awareness. My responsibilities ranged from the design over prototyping to production and overseeing mass production.

Can’t play tennis with-out strings. Whether it’s monofilament or multifilament strings, synthetic gut or polyester, each have their unique playing characteristics. Organising play-tests with players around the world on different surfaces took time, but it ensured the proper quality.

9 years in the Tennis Business

I played Division 1 collegiate tennis at The American University in Washington, DC and in my senior year used a Völkl Tennis racquet, the HotSpot 9. That opened the door to the tennis industry as I was fortunate enough to have been offered a sales representative job with Völkl Tennis USA right after graduation. The best decision of my career and have not left the sporting goods industry since.

I covered the Mid Western States of the US and was based out of Chicago, IL. Visiting retailers, organizing demo days, collaborating with teaching professionals was my daily business. Völkl Tennis at the time was only just starting their distribution in the US. In the Mid West I began with 17 accounts and finished two years later with 88 tennis specialty retailers. I learned the retail business with the support from my boss, Mr Sam Cook, who was a true inspiration. He taught me to stay focus and how to build meaningful relationships with my partners. His dedication the Völkl brand rubbed off on everyone around him. His positive outlook and “go-getter” attitude was the ideal way to learn how to become a responsible sales rep and enjoy the ride. Sam’s work ethic has influenced me, as I look to bring passion to work every day.

Working for a distributor opened the door of sporting goods retail and enabled me to learned the sports retail business from the base. That experience proved valuable when years later as the Product Manager Tennis for Völkl Tennis International, I got to design the very same racquets that future sales reps would be selling.

Product Manager to oversee the tennis portfolio. Together with R&D, we designed racquets with patented and award winning technologies for pros and hobby players. What followed were leading responsibilities in Global Sales and International Marketing. Defining product launch strategies, advertizing campaigns and implementing them with our distribution partners around the world, set the foundation to my knowledge of the international sporting goods industry.

The following global Sales & Marketing roles enabled me to understand the bigger picture of the business and how every department must complement each other to be successful. Leading the introduction campaigns and implementing them in close collaboration with distribution partners around the world led to continuous growth.
